Khao San Road
Khao San Road is a small road in Bangkok; its area starts from Chakrabongse road (in front of Chana Songkram
temple) to the south east and ends at Ta Now road, near Kok Wua intersection.
Khao San Road becomes well-known among all tourists from over the world in 1982 when the 200th Anniversary of
Rattanakosin Kingdom Celebration was held. The celebration was held all over Bangkok, especially in Rattanakosin
Island, where Khao San Road is also situated. At the time, there were many tourists who came to join the
celebration and had nowhere to stay but renting a room from buildings and houses at Khao San Road. That was the
beginning of the guesthouse business which made Khao San become the most famous guesthouse community in Bangkok

increased from few to hundreds. The prices of guesthouses are so various; starts from 100-1,000 baht per night
(approximately 2-30 USD only). With the cheaper price compare with those hotels nearby, Khao San Road becomes the
first choice for backpackers worldwide.
